Moderation
The purpose of moderation is to provide assurance that assessment is fair, valid and at the national standard, and that the assessors are making consistent judgements about learner performance.
A key feature of moderation is that there is two-way communication: recommendations and requirements are made for good practice assessment and there is an opportunity for assessors to give feedback to the Standard Setting Body about unit standard design and resource development for future reviews.
The BCITO is the Standard Setting Body responsible for ensuring that accredited providers meet national assessment standards within its scope in the construction industry. The scope and associated processes are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR 0048). http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/nqfdocs/maps/doc/0048.doc.
Industry Productivity Guidelines
The National Certificate in Carpentry qualification includes two unit standards in Elective B that refer to work requirements as detailed in the Industry Productivity Guidelines. These unit standards are:
- 4346, Demonstrate knowledge of, set out and install interior proprietary partitions on site
- 6155, Demonstrate knowledge of, set out and install suspended ceilings on site
If providers are assessing against these unit standards, the guidelines can be requested by emailing lesley.brittenden@bcito.org.nz
