BCITO Carpentry Gateway Package
The Gateway programme is a work placement initiative for senior secondary school students and is funded by the Tertiary Education Commission.More than 340 schools in NZ offer the Gateway programme which sees students gain valuable workplace experience. The BCITO have developed a specific Carpentry Gateway Package for the programme.
What are the benefits of becoming a BCITO Gateway employer?
As an employer in the industry, getting involved in Gateway and the BCITO Carpentry Gateway package can:
- Introduce you to a potential source of keen apprentices.
- Allow you to evaluate potential new employees to see whether they'll fit within your business - in terms of ability, attitude and team-fit.
- Get some hands on enthusiastic help on your site at regular intervals (one to two days per week during the school terms) throughout the year.
- Allow you to offer students some extra work experience in school holidays.
- Learn more about how the BCITO apprenticeship system works if you don't already have any experience with it.
- Boost the ‘feel good' factor on the job - as you will be passing on your knowledge to the next generation and providing them with an introduction into the industry.
