Registered Master Builders Carters 2008 Apprentice of the Year
The Registered Master Builders Carters Apprentice of the Year competition aims to recognise excellence among carpentry apprentices and raise awareness of careers in the building and construction industry.
Apprentice of the Year is a joint initiative run by the Registered Master Builders Federation (RMBF), principal sponsor Carters, and supporting sponsors the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) and the Department of Building and Housing (DBH).
How do I enter?
Look out for an entry kit in the mail - the BCITO is sending kits out soon. Entry kits can also be downloaded here.
The 2008 competition opens on 7 April 2008. Entries must be recieved no later than 31 July 2008.
Who can enter?
The competition is open to all carpentry apprentices - you don't have to work for a registered master builder or do your training with the BCITO to enter. You must be employed with a building company or individual builder (including at the time of judging) and:
- Be aged 26 years or under in the year of the competition (ie: 26 years or under as at 31 December 2008).
- Be completing a National Certificate in Carpentry.
- Have completed at least two years of the National Certificate in Carpentry onsite or have completed your apprenticeship within six months of the closing date Thursday 31st July 2008.
- Reside in the competition region.
The competition is judged in three stages:
Entry Form
The entry form is your first chance to impress the judges so make sure it's your best work! You'll need to include a short description of why you think you're the best apprentice in the region as well as comments from your employer and training provider. You'll also need to describe a building project you are working on or have finished to demonstrate your skill and learning.
Interviews
All entrants will be required to attend an interview, so we can check you out in person.
Onsite judging
Finalists in the regional competitions will receive a site visit from the judges. This is your chance to showcase your knowledge and skills on your own turf.
Each regional winner will go on to compete for the national title in Wellington.
