BCITO - Building and Construction ITO

Apprentices Needed in Christchurch!

The BCITO is currently in contact with a number of builders and employers in Christchurch who are currently looking for apprentices to join their teams. If you are looking for work, we may be able to put you in contact!

Employers are particularly keen on anyone who has some site experience, preferably over 12 months. If you or someone you know have experience, and are looking for a career in building, complete our online Looking For Work form NOW! We may be able to put you in contact with a professional builder and set you up in an apprenticeship in the Christchurch area.

The great thing about an apprenticeship programme is that training occurs one-on-one with a professional. Plus you don't have to worry about huge student loans - you will actually earn a wage whilst learning.

If you are serious about becoming a builder, there are some things which you can get organised first before looking for employment:

  • Make sure you have a current CV
  • Get a driver's license
  • Make plans about transport - how will you get to and from work?
  • Have a great "can-do" attitude. More than anything, your boss just wants you to be enthusiastic and turn up to work on time!
  • Check out any jobs which could be listed on Seek, Trade Me or your local paper
  • Ask friends and family if they know any builders you can speak to. Personal contacts are always better!
