3rd Place - Glenfield College

People's Choice Award - Hawera High School

Congratulations to the winning teams and teams from all the schools who participated in the Challenge this year. Projects were built to a very high standard and will be appreciated by the local communities for many years to come. All participants should be very proud of their efforts.

The BCITO Build-Ability Challenge is an annual, nationwide school-based programme to construct a building project that is donated to a local community group. The BCITO has successfully held the Build-Ability Challenge for the past five years, and in that time, the Challenge has given school groups the opportunity to make a significant and lasting contribution to their local communities.

The Build-Ability Challenge aims to create an opportunity for students to experience the positive impact they can have on their local community, through skills such as building, while giving them a taste of the building industry – experiencing the real-life, on-the-job demands of a building project.

Many of the students who participate in the Challenge find they also learn a lot of skills, which they can use in other areas of life.

The BCITO Build-Ability Challenge is all about the journey each team takes to reach the end goal – the completed construction of a project. The projects are judges in a two-step process, with completed projects being judged onsite, and project diaries being judges by a national judging panel.
