A Syntech Distributions tour allowed masons to see the latest sandblasting and stone engraving machinery relevant to the sector while getting advice on the most up-to-date health and safety requirements and equipment. The tour then headed to Auckland memorial park cemetery for a tour of the grounds, where association members had constructed exemplary headstone works under challenging access conditions. Lunch was enjoyed in the classical surrounds of the ground’s “settlers’ cottage”. The next visit took masons to North Shore Memorial Park which offered further opportunities for association members to view and observe quality headstone works, giving inspiration for their future designs.

The NZMMA conference highlights the benefits of association membership, especially in smaller sectors such as monumental masonry. Associations offer not only governance but a sense of community through connection, discussion and meeting new faces.
