Describe a typical day at work?
We work on large scale commercial projects which means I get to put my theory into practice almost every day. I do a variety of jobs from making concrete panels to reinforcing concrete.

Best perks of the job?
I really enjoying learning why we do the stuff we do, as well as how to do it well. It’s great to be able to stand back at the end of a job and say I was part of the team that built that.

Every job has its downsides – what about this one?
There’s quite a lot of cleaning! What do you enjoy about your job most of all? The team I work with are really great, and we have lots of laughs. They encouraged me to start an apprenticeship and give me heaps of support.

Qualifications and previous experience that got you the job?
I was already working in the industry and my boss encouraged me to get qualified through an apprenticeship.

What personality traits/skills/attributes help a person to get a job like yours?
Be prepared to do anything, you have to be motivated and give things a go.

Advice for people wanting to do an apprenticeship in Cement and Concrete?
Finding the right boss is important, on the job just jump in and try things.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I’m keen to travel and work overseas.
