If you're someone who enjoys the physical and mental challenge of working with your hands then completing a National Certificate in Frame and Truss Manufacturing could be your ticket to an exciting and varied career path in the building and constructions industry.National Certificate in Frame and Truss Manufacturing - how do I achieve it?
There are three stages of training required to achieve the National Certificate in Frame and Truss Manufacturing.
These are:
- Stage 1 - these unit standards cover general skills from the building and construction industry.
They cover areas such as First Aid, Health and Safety, building calculations, reading plans, safe use of timber machinery and using hand and power tools.
- Stage 2 - these unit standards cover general skills specific to frame and truss manufacturing.
They cover skills common to both wall frame and truss manufacturing, like how to make up orders, how to package the product and the correct use of a nail gun.
- Stage 3 - the third stage is split into two strands depending on what type of manufacturing you are doing. *
Frame strand - these unit standards are frame specific and test your skills and knowledge in areas such as how to manually set out plates and assemble the product, and using automated or manual processes.
Truss strand - These unit standards are roof truss specific and test your skills and knowledge in areas such as roofing, how to assemble the product, and using automated or manual processes.
* You only need to complete one strand to achieve your qualification.
The National Certificate in Frame and Truss Manufacturing is not based on the number of hours you work. Doing an apprenticeship in Frame and Truss Manufacturing is all about gaining skills and developing your knowledge of the industry and knowing what is required to be competent in your work.
Each qualification is designed so that practical work can be learnt and applied on the job, while the theory component is learnt through a self paced learning package.
Once all unit standards in your qualification strand have been completed you receive a National Certificate in Frame and Truss Manufacturing.
